What is a DOULA? Most people, when asked, haven't even heard of the word DOULA, let alone know what one is. DOULA stems from an ancient Greek word meaning "mothers helper" or "woman who serves."
A postpartum doula is a trained and experienced professional who provides emotional, informational, and practical support during the postpartum period. The new mother can easily feel overwhelmed as she recovers from the birth and takes care of her baby’s needs. With a doula's support, mothers and fathers can quickly become confident in caring for their newborns.
A lactation counselor is a supporting presence that will work with you, step by step, on helping you to establish your breastfeeding relationship with your newborn. With patience and care, your counselor will guide you with different position changes, tools, informational resources, and emotional support. Getting support early on can help to maximize your chances of long term breastfeeding success.
As your doula and/or lactation counselor I am here to give you one-to-one companionship and emotional support through one of the most exciting, joyful, and amazing times in your lives!
